Introduction to Personality Disorder
1 day FREE training commissioned by Bristol City Council for staff who work with Bristol service users/clients
This course is intended as an introduction to personality disorders and is aimed at workers and volunteers from a range of Bristol based settings who may have contact with individuals who have the ‘symptoms’ and life difficulties associated with a Personality Disorder diagnosis (whether diagnosed or not).
This Introduction to Understanding Personality Disorders has been jointly developed by:
Iola Davies a national KUF trainer and consultant in personality disorder who has lived experience
Suzanne Pearson a mental health practitioner and trainer in the process of becoming a KUF trainer who has long standing personality disorder involvement.
Aim of the training: to increase understanding of personality disorders and identify strategies to work alongside individuals experiencing personality disorder ‘symptoms’ (whether diagnosed or not) with an emphasis on the perspectives of people with ‘lived experience’ and the social model.
Learning objectives:
To understand more about what personality disorders are and the ‘symptoms’ which maybe experienced
To discuss attitudes around personality disorders
To consider the possible causes of personality disorders and their implications
To gain basic information about the different types of personality disorders with a specific focus on Borderline and Anti Social Personality Disorders
To start considering what might be helpful in promoting recovery and wellbeing for individuals experiencing personality disorder ‘symptoms’ and associated life difficulties
To start identifying effective ways of coming alongside people when in crisis and when on their personal journey of recovery
To develop staff awareness and practice and to take this back to services to benefit client experience and progress
To disseminate information about the National KUF Personality Disorder training.
